You are invited to the next meeting of our working group’s Power Up Communities Campaign. We will be discussing our advocacy work to support or oppose selected energy bills before the California State Legislature. These include:
- AB 1167,The California Ratepayer Protection Act would keep the cost of utility lobbying, promotional advertising, and other activities that are for the primary benefit of utility shareholders out of Californians’ energy bills.
- SB 332, the Investor-Owned Utilities Accountability Act, addresses the immediate harms of the investor-owned utilities. Among other things it would cap investor-owned utility rate increases for residential customers to no more than the Consumer Price Index, require proposed executive compensation be contingent on safety metrics, and fund a feasibility study to determine what form of utility best serves ratepayers.
- SB 500, PUC Performance Based Incentives Act, will transform the existing utility cost of service compensation model to a Performance Based model that can help contain costs to rate-payers, while supporting more affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy infrastructure.
In addition, we will update members on our collaboration with the Sierra Club on their Electric Sector Campaign, that is working toward phasing out the dirtiest power plants in the state, located near working families, and replacing them with cost-effective clean energy resources.
