Wisconsin Third Actors Urge LL Bean and Macy’s to Drop the Fossil-Fuel-Dirty Citibank Credit Card

Since the Paris Agreement in 2015, Citibank has been the world's largest funder of fossil fuel expansion--and thus the global climate crisis. Becausee Bean and Macy's have co-branded credit cards with Citibank they are thus complicit with, and enablers of, Citibank in fueling the climate and ecological crisis.

Wisconsin Third Actors on Sunday August 11, delivered to managers of LL Bean and Macy’s stores in Madison’s Hilldale Shopping Center, a petition signed by nearly 7000 customers, over 140 of them Wisconsin residents.

Citibank has financed more fossil fuel expansion since 2015 than any other bank in the world and in 2023 financed nearly twice as much fossil fuel energy as clean energy.

Citibank financing of fossil fuels is so egregious that, since June 10th, families, grandparents, scientists, and young people have been regularly protesting at Citi’s global headquarters in New York City.  Over 450 people have even taken the dramatic step of being arrested at these protests.

No arrests happened at the Madison Bean and Macy’s stores yesterday, but  a strong message was delivered.
