Third Row Canoe Trip

Since no one took a camera on the Third Row Canoe Trip (April 17th, 2004) Phil decided it would be best to illustrate the journey, so that all of you who didn't attend would at least know what you missed. The day started off with a rendezvous at Travis, Phil and Lisa's house, and from there on to Albertsons for supplies, then off to Mississippi. It didn't take too long before we were at the canoe rental headquarters putting on sunscreen and getting our ice-chests ready to go. And so our pictoral journey begins...

Soon we were off in a 1930's school-bus hauling a trailer full of canoes, heading upstream... when we heard one of the worst things possible. "Ya'll hold on now, brakes ain't workin'" (or something along those lines, with the perfect backwoods Mississippi accent...) Fortunately no one was hurt, and we made it to the landing successfully. Time for some canoeing!!
See, now the thing with Third Row canoe trips is that canoeing is one of the least important features. It most certainly takes a back-seat to drinking, and Jay's beverage of choice is almost always the famous Third Row punch...
Another thing about drinking... is that it does signifcantly impair whatever canoeing abilities are actually necessary... and when you've got a canoe full of intoxicated people... accidents happen. (no snakes were harmed during the production of this cartoon... or during the actual canoe trip)
Ah the jumping spot... one of the few places along the route where there is an accessible ledge and water deep enough to safely jump into. Eric was first, and after the snake got out of the way the canonballs commenced. Of course, after a few people the mud bank got exceptionalyl slippery, and after Phil saved Eric from falling off the ledge... Matt managed to slip and before anyone could blink, he was rolling down the cliff into the water. It looked ugly, it looked painful, it looked downright awful, but fortunately he swam away with only a few bruises and a good laugh.. Guess where Rob is!

And that concludes our pictoral presentation of the 2004 Third Row canoe trip. I hope more of you can join us next year, much fun was had, and will be had, by all.
